PERSONAL.
The death occurred on Sunday morning of Mr Arthur D. Pickard, president of the Wellington Working Men’s Club, and a prominent figure in the Buffalo Order. Tire late Mr Pickard was 47 years of age.
A Shanghai message -says that considerable gloom has been occasioned by the sudden death of Colonel R. E. Hooker ; commanding the Fourth Regiment of United States marines. He was regarded as a most popular officer and was associated with the defence of Shanghai.
The board of directors of the Horowlienua Rural Intermediate Credits Association, with the secretary (Mr G. D. Hamilton) and Mr D. P. Todd, met the former district supervisor, Mr K. Henderson, recently, and made him a presentation in aj>preciation of the courtesy which he had always extended to the board.
