OBITUARY.
MR R. H. FRASER. There passed away at Dannevirke on Sunday evening, after an illness extending over two months, Mr Robert Hugh Fraser, who was prominent in that town and well known in Palmerston North several years ago. Mr Fraser was born at Kumara, on the West Coast, 45 years ago, and came to Palmerston North with his parents when two, years of age. His early education was received at the old Campbell Street Scligol, two of his teachers being the late F. E. Watson and C. H. Warden, who were prominent in Palmerston North’s educational sphere. Winning a scholarship, Mr Fraser went to Wellington College for a short time and then, on the opening of the Palmerston North High School; which commenced its activities in St. Andrew’s hall under Mr IV. Gray, returned to Palmerston North. He was the first dux of the High School and at the age of 19 passed the examinations necessary for practising as a solicitor. He was in the employ of Mr J. P. Innes tor several years and about 1909 removed to Dannevirke to act as managing clerk for Messrs Blakiston and Blakiston. Later he became a partner in that firm. For the past lu years lie had been in practice on his own account, but illness had confined him to his bed for *two months past. Mr Fraser was a prominent cricketer and hockey player in Palmerston North and was in the representative teams. He was a member of tire first Campbell Street School hockey team and later of the Campbell Street Old Boys’ Club, obtaining North Island representative honours in the half-back line. For a number of years Mr Fraser was a member of the Dannevirke Borough Council, while he was a steward of the Dannevirke Racing Club for 20 years and was also connected with tennis and 1 hockey; He was always ready to assist in the welfare of his town. There are left to mourn his passing a widow and 14-year-o!d daughter, his mother (Mrs IV. Fraser, of Palmerston North) and brother (Mr D. Fraser, of Dannevirke) to whom will be extended the sympathy of a large circle of friends. The funeral took place at the Mangatera cemetery, this afternoon.
