CHRISTMAS MESSAGES.
TELEGRAPH AND TOLL. Heavy telegraph traffic was handled by the staff at the Palmerston North Post Office during the two days immediately preceding the week-end holidays, and extra operators were engaged in dealing with the final rush of Christmas messages. On Friday 657 telegrams of all classes were forwarded and 859 received, compared with the figures of 706 and 789 respectively for the corresponding day of 1931. - Toll messages put through numbered 1481, compared with 1767 on December 23 of last year. Besides this traffic there was the transmission of through telegrams to and from other centres. Telegrams of all classes forwarded on Saturday totalled 1280 and 1432 were received, compared with 1875 and 2210 respectively on December 24 of 1931. Toll calls handled numbered 1434, compared with 1774 on December 24 in 1931.
