THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A slight anti-cyclone moved on to the South Island yesterday, while a shallow depression crossed northern New Zealand. A fresh depression is situated over south-eastern Moderate to fresh south-easterly or southerly winds, veering to northerly again to-day, in and south of Cook Strait. Seas rather rough about Cook Strait; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Moderate to strong south-east winds in the northern portion of the eastern Tasman Sea, and moderate easterly, veering to freshening notherlies, in the southern portion • seas rather rough. Weather dull and misty at first from Cook Strait northward, with scattered rain chiefly along the . East Coast, but improving; elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cool, but becoming warmer again to-day. DISTRICT REPORT. FAIR AND WARMER. The Government meteorologist wired to-day : —The indications are for moderate southerly winds, backing by the east to north, and later freshening. There is a prospect of fair weather and warmer temperatures. The barometer is falling slowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —lft 3ins.
