A NEW MARVEL.

BRAIN SURGERY PROGRESS. An operation employing new technique, and revealing the marvellous progress that has been made in brain surgery, lias restored the sight of a teacher, a patient in London Hospital who was suffering from a pituitary tumor. Prior to the discovery of the technique, the operation probably would have been fatal, owing to the difficulty of preventing haemorrhage, hut the technique enabled a diathermic current gradually to break through the brain colls and to he’al them a again as it passed to the tumor. This part of the operation- occupied several hours, owing to the difficulty of access of the tumor. The whole operation lasted a day, and necessitated the services of an eye specialist and four doctors. It. is anticipated that the perfection of technique will save many lives.

The chief surgeon engaged on the operation was Dr H. W. B. Cairns, a former Adelaide Rhodes Scholar, who is now a staff surgeon at London Hospital.
