Constable B. Warren, Court orderly at the Wellington Magistrate’s Court for the past six years, has been transferred to Levin.

The death is reported from Sydney of Captain TV. J. Eyre, a former master in the service of the Union Steam Ship Company, aged fifty-three years.

Mr Bryan D. O’Shea, formerly of tho Palmerston North High School, and a son of Mr J. J. O’Shea, of Russell Street, passed in contracts and property in the recent LL.IL degree examinations.

Cabled advice has been received by Air Walter F. Boyle, American Consul at Auckland, that Air Walter W. Hoffman lias been appointed as viceconsul for that city. Born in Belmont, Alassacliusetts, in 1879, Air Hoffman, is a graduate of Harvard University and of the California Institute of Technology. He joined the Consular service last year as viceConsul at Port Limon, Costa Rica.

The death occurred at his residence, Limehills, on Tuesday night of Air William Swale, one of Southland’s most prominent farmers, states a Press Association message from Invercargill. He was 64 years of age, and was known as buyer and exporter of fat stock. His farm is one of the finest properties in the province. Air Swale was a director of the Southland A. and P. Association and a prominent exhibitor at shows for many years. He was a member of tho committee of the Southland Racing Club, and at the time of liis death was president of the Winton facing Club, a trustee of the Winton racecourse, and a member of the Southland District Committee. He was also a successful owner. He was a member of the Awarua Licensing Committee, of the Land Purchase Board appointed by the Government in 1919 and chairman of Doherty's Lime AVoriis Company. He was unmarried.

There passed, away at Ballance on Alonday last Air Edward Ediin, a wellknown settler, who was born at AVoodend, near Kaiapoi, in the South Island, in 1865. Air Ediin took over a farm at Te Rehunga 26 years ago and 13 years later removed to Ballance, where his death took place as the result of heart trouble. A widow, three daughters and three sons are left to mourn Ills passing. The daughters are Airs Adin, of Koputaroa, and. the Alisses Ethel and Alartha Ediin. The sons are Alessrs Fred, Alalcolm and Arthur, of Bailance. There are also five brothers and one sister surviving. They are: Alessrs George (New Plymouth), Frederick (Napier), Walter (Levin), David (Wairarapa), and Thomas (Ballance). The sister is Airs Shearer (Auckland). The funeral took place on Tuesday and was attended by many friends and relatives. The pallbearers were Alessrs Power, Berg and Babbage (Te Rehunga). Alessrs Jones and AVindle (Ballance), and Air F. Ediin (nephew, of Levin).
