MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Before Messrs M. A. Eliott and A. J. Graham, Justices of the Peace, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Michael James Farrell, aged 53, appeared on remand charged that, on December 20 at Palmerston North, he did receive a gold chain valued at £8 Bs, well knowing the same to have been dishonestly obtained. On the application of Detective Russell accused was further remanded until Friday, January 6. George Henry Jackson Hughes was charged with having been found in a state of helpless drunkenness in a public place on December 20. Senior-Ser-geant Whitehouse said accused had been in a very bad state, but had now recovered. Accused was convicted and discharged.
