WAR DEBTS.
CONSIDERATION FOR BRITAIN,
ADVOCACY IN UNITED STATES
NEW YORK, Doc. 28.
The strongest article from an American source on tile subject of war debts will appear in the Saturday Evening Post, occupying nearly the whole of the editorial page, and urging that the debts be scaled down to meet the emergency now existing, but be enforced at the lull rate when the nations recover.
The Post agrees with the Hearst and other Press services that Britain alone among America’s debtors deserves consideration.
The article bitterly condemns the French default, and states that “ever since 1914 there has been a campaign in Europe directed against the United States, to get them into the war, keep them in fever heat during the war, and then dodge paying for the war.” It declares that the Ottawa Conference aimed at keeping America out of British Empire markets.
