OROUA DOWNS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, Oct. 3. The final shoot ol' the season was held at the Rifle Club’s range on Monday evening, the following scores being recorded : —li. Rivers 137, E. Christensen 138, (J. Christensen 139, T. Grammar 125, T. Humphries 131, C. Conlan 134, M. Mills 138, J. Robertson 132, J. Conlan 132, K. Hobbs 135, D. Funnell 136, L. Burling 136. K. Cotton 135. The winners of the grade cups which have been shot for at every practice are: A grade, C. Christensen; B grade, E. Christensen; C grade, K. Hobbs. The Reo Cup was won by M. Mills. The cups were presented at supper time by the president of the club, Mr F. Christensen, and congratulatory remarks were made by Mesrs C. Conlan and M. Mills. It is the intention of the Foxton Silver Band to give an entertainment in the Oroua Downs Hall. The organisation has for some years been disbanded and it is only owing to the untiring efforts of Mr Thomas, of Palmerston North, who is acting as bandmaster, that the bandsmen have been brought together again. It is hoped that success will attend his efforts. Several of the young men from Oroua Downs have joined the band. A card tourney and ping-pong evening was held in the school last Wednesday. Probably owing to the fact that there had been a for some weeks owing to other attractions in the district, there was only a fair attendance, but a satisfactory financial return resulted. After cards a dainty supper was provided and the prizes were presented by the chairman of the School Committee, Mr Hobbs. The foblowing are the results: —Euchre: Ladies, Mr F. Dalgety 1 (playing as lady), Mrs Bird, runner-up; men, H. 11. Procter I, Owen Rivers runner-up. Five hundred : Mrs 11. Sailer 1, Miss W. Jarvis runnorup; men, T. Scott 1, A. Jeffries runnerup. The ping pong resulted.—First r.ound : J. Scott 22 lost to M. Ilarker 31, J. B. Bennett 31 beat L. Sievert 16,, E. Davey 31 beat J. Dench 13, A. Lewis 27 lost to W. Jarvis 31.
