EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” OCTOBER 4, 1903. The estate of the late Nathaniel Levin, founder of the well-known firm of Levin and Co., had been sworn at £104,000 and that of the late Hon. Dr Grace, M.P. for AVellington, at £63,615. Miss Ada Crossley had had an unparalleled reception at Melbourne. Never before liad Melbourne seen such enthusiasm over an artist or a singer. Messrs T. R. Hodder, AValker and D. G. Monrad, on leaving the township, were farewelled at a large gathering at Longburn. Mr S. AV. Luxford was chairman, be being assisted by Mr H. McEwen. Master Victor Harris, who was to leave for Europe to further bis violin studies, was to play at a farewell concert at) Palmerston North. He was very young and was described as a musical genius. The Somaliland campaign was being continued at the middle of the month. It was stated that if the insurgent Mullah were not captured in a month most of the infantry troops would be evacuated, tlie mounted forces alone to remain.
