TE ARAKURA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAKURA, Oct, 3. Tho To Arakura Ping Pong Club hold their final evening last Thursday. A largo number of members, also several visitors, were present. Tho evening was spent in games of ping pong. A two-lifo tournament was played with enthusiasm, and after keen play Mr A. Sirnion defeated Mr J. Baxter in the finals. The ladies’ consolation prize was won by Miss C. Pentecost. Mr L. Hansen, on behalf of tho club, thanked all tho members for their support and interest, and presented Mr A. Sirnion and Miss C. Pentecost with their prizes. Later, a very enjoyable supper, provided by the club, was served by tho ladies. At a late hour all present returned home after a very good night’s entertainment. Tho annual meeting of tho Tennis Club was held last evening in tho schoolroom, a good number of members and intending members being present. Mr W. E. Thomas was in tho chair. Tho balancesheet was read and adopted, and showed a credit balance which was most satisfactory. Mr D. Lower (secretary and treasurer) in his report stated that the club had a very successful season, both socially and financially. The membership showed an increase. Matches were played against Whakarongo, Ivairanga, Taonui, ■ Bunnythorpo, Palmerston North Technical School and Feilding Methodist Clubs. The games resulted in 5 wins, 1 draw and 6 losses. It was very gratifying to note tho groat improvement shown over the season boforo. The club was indebted to Mr and Mrs J. H. Bennett for the use of their court for matches. ’The ladder showed little variation, but an improvement was shown in the lower section. The cupboard and seats had been painted and the court marked ready for play. _ A vote of thanks was passed to the president for his support and interest in tho club. This was carried by acclamation. It was finally decided that the subscription for the coming season bo men ss, ladies 3s. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr J. L'inklater, M.P. (re-elected) ; president, Mr W. E. Thomas (re-elected); vicepresidents, Messrs J. H. Bennett, W. Jones, A. Wilkins,and J. J. Hume; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. Lower; club captain, Mr D. Johnston (re-elected) ; committee, Mr L. Hansen, Mr E. Whisker, Misses H. Bennett and M. Firth. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr P■ Hansen, hon. auditor, also to Mr W. E. Thomas, president, and Mr D. Lower, secretary and treasurer, for their excellent services. It was decided that tho club bo officially opened on October 14, and a cordial invitation was extended to the residents of the district.
