Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral, Lady Bledisloe, and suite, who have been on a visit to Christchurch, returned to "Wellington yesterday morning. Mr W. H. Brown has returned to Palmerston North after a health recruiting holiday in Hawke’s Bay. Mr L. Aschman, a member of the literary staff of the Christchurch Times and Star, has been apointed to fill tire vacancy on the head office staff of the United Press Association, "Wellington. In the House of Hepresentatives, yesterday, Mr E. T. Tirikatene was granted six days’ leave of absence on account of illness in the family. Mr W. Nash was granted seven days’ leave of absence on account of public business. Mr M. H. Oram, who has been abroad for some months, is expected to return to Palmerston North just before Christmas. He recently motored from London to Edinburgh in company with Hr H. J. Durward, formerly of Palmerston North.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Lunch Club, it was decided that a letter be sent to Mr E. AT. Eurby, Chief Postmaster at Palmerston North, congratulating him on his. promotion to the position of Chief Postmaster at Christchurch. An Ashburton message states that the death has occurred of Mr A\ r illiam Edwin Dolman, aged 86. He was a member of the Ashburton Eire Brigade for 57 years, mostly as engineer and caretaker. Erorn 1879 till the age of retirement he was connected with the Ashburton Rifle Volunteers and held the rank of major.
The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr Anton Teutenberg, aged 93, who came to New Zealand over 67 years ago. He was the son of the gunsmith to King Frederick William IV. of Prussia and carved the gargoyles and figures on the colonnade of the Supreme Court in Auckland. He was an engraver by occupation.
Very Rev. Dr. Maurice Joseph O’Reilly, C.M., Rector of St. John’s College, Sydney, for the last eighteen years, died there on September 25. The late Dr. O’Reilly, who was the Provincial of the Vincintian Order in Australia, was one of the most distinguished priests in the Commonwealth, a brilliant educationist, and a graceful writer in prose and verse. Mr W. R. Mechaelis, Rector of the Alexandra District High School, passed away on Sunday evening after a comparatively brief illness. Mr Mechaelis was honoured with the diploma of Fellowship of the Royal Astronomical Society (F.R.A.S.). His knowlege of the science of astronomy was very profound, and it was to him an absorbing study.
Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor made a solo flight from Palmerston North to AVellington and return yesterday in the Manawatu Aero Club’s Moth ’plane ZK-ABA. On arrival at the AVellington airport Mr McGregor was accorded a warm welcome by the pilots and members of the Wellington Aero Club, this having been his first cross-country flight since his accident last December.
