SANDON, Oct. 4. A meeting of the executive of the school jubilee was held on Monday night. Mr E. J. Bovvater presided over a good attendance. The various committees reported that work was well in hand. Mr C. Jiglinton said the Feilding Salvation Army Band could como out lor tho Saturday, but could not roach Sanson before 1.20 p.m. Consideration of this feature was held over until next Monday. Air J. M. Croucher said he had spoken to Colonel J. M. Whyte in connection with tho Palmerston North Garrison Band coming out for the Sunday service. A definite answer was expected in a day or two. Tho secretary (Mr J. M. Croucher) submitted a draft of a circular letter proposed to be eent to old settlers and old pupils. Briefly the letter is as follows: “The jubilee celebrations will commence with a dinner at tho Public Hall on Friday, November 24, at noon; special invitations are to be sent to the Governor-General and the Lady Bledisloe, the Premier, Hon. R. Masters, Hon. J. G. Cobbc, j\'lr Linklater, M.P., tho chairman and members of the Wanganui Education Board, Mr W. H. Swanger, late secretary of the Education Board, and the chairman and members of Manawatu Gounty Gouncil. In the evening a coster ball will bo hold. The Saturday will bo a gala day, at which the children will bo specially catered for; a community sing and concert to follow in tho evening. The jubilee will bo brought to a close with a service of commemoration on tho Sunday. The committee wish to obtain a collection of photographs, deeds, etc., in connection w'ith early settlement and a loan of these will be appreciated. Every care will be taken for their safe custody. Tho dinner is for old sottlers and old pupils over 40 years of ago and residents or past residents for 20 years. Tho success of the jubileo deponds on tho presence of all who can possibly attend and it is hoped an effort will bo made by all.” A very use ful meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
A meeting to consider the question of forming a Scout troop was held on Tuesday evening, Air G. T. Francis presiding. It was resolved that a troop bo formed and a provisional committee was elected with Air A. Anderson as secretary pro tern. Air I. A. Cockburn was appointed acting scoutmaster. It was resolved to hold instructional classes each week. Each of the boys present was enrolled a member and the meeting closed with the chairman (Air Francis) giving the boys a short address. A voto of thanks was accorded the chairman for presiding. A meeting of tho committee of the Women’s Institute with their four representatives on tho jubileo celebrations committee was held on Monday night to dis-' CU6S plans for their part in the celebrations. It was resolved to make application for the use of a county lorry and to meet again next Tuesday to further tho plans. The birthday of the institute falls next month, and it was decided to hold the regular meeting on Wednesday, the 15th, and to invite the neighbouring institutes to attend. Airs A. lv. Drew’s offer of a birthday cake was accepted with thanks. The PJunket Society met last week, Mrs J. H. i’errett presiding over a full at tendance. It was resolved that letters of sympathy be sent to Airs Cossum and Air W. J. Croucher in their bereavements. An invitation from the Mhrton Plunket Soociety to attend thoir 21st birthday was accepted. The half-yearly account for the share of expenses of tho visiting nurse was passed for payment.
