PREMISES RAIDED

ARRESTS IN WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. A well organised police raid was carried out this afternoon upon 16 Chinese premises in Haining, Taranaki and Vivian Streets in which it was suspected that pakapoo was being played and 43 arrests were made. The raid was carried out with military precision by the force. Three sergeants and 30 constables, under Senior-Sergeant D. Scott, arrested the men who were all bailed out to-night. To-morrow 16 Chinese will appear before the Court, charged with being keepers of common gaming houses, and 22 Europeans and five Chinese will answer charges' of being found unlawfully on premises used for gaming. The streets were full of excited spectators, but the Chinese Seemed to take the raid as a matter of course, and smiled blandly as the police made their search.
