PIONEER PASSES.

A HAAVERA CENTENARIAN. HAWERA, Oct. 4. The death of a pioneer settler, Mr George Rogers, aged 102, occurred this morning. Born at Maidstone, Kent, he had followed an agricultural occupation from the age of seven. He voyaged to New Zealand in the sailing ship St. Adharlem in 1880, settling in the Hawera district,' wdrere he was engaging in farming until 1916, when he retired, following his wife’s death. His remarkably good health was maintained until the last. Until recently he was able to attend to his garden and read a newspaper without glasses. Four days ago, a short time after enjoying a pipe, he lapsed into a coma from which he failed to recover. There are four surviving members of his family of ten.
