LAWN TENNIS VISITORS.
CRAWFORD AND McGRATH
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 6
J. B. Crawford and V. McGrath, of the Australia Davis Cup team, arrived by the Mariposa and will play exhibition matches this afternoon. Crawford, who at 25 is the virtual champion of the world, has had five seasons of continuous tennis and has been medically advised to take a rest, but he says he cannot see his way clear to do that, so he has decided not to play in singles matches for a time. He will have less than a fortnight’s spell before preparing for the visit to Australia of the English team, which will play in five Tests and three championship tournaments. Crawford declined to talk about him. self. He said he thought Australia had better young players coming on than any other country. Australia’s chances of lifting the Davis Cup next year were very good and a team would probably challenge again in the European zone.
