DOG POISONING.
DEPREDATIONS IN CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 5. The Canterbury Kennel Club has offered a reward of £lO for information concerning the operntions of a person, or persons, poisoning dogs in Christchurch, but no success has been met with yet. The trouble began in the Merivale suburban district, near the city, but dogs have been poisoned since then over a much wider area. There have been cases reported even at Kaiapoi, but the belief is that the mischief is all the work of the same person or group. The value of the best dogs destroyed must amount to several hundred pounds. It is impossible to learn the exact number, but it is known that at least 70 dogs have been destroyed. The most valuable dog to fall a victim was Mr Wilfred White’s Irish setter, Patsy of Trashna, which has won prizes and championships everywhere it has been shown and was champion of all breeds at the last November show in Christchurch. She was the most valuable dog in the city, and had been described bv an English fancier as the best dog south of the Line. Many of the others destroyed were much-valued show specimens. Indeed, there seems to be evidence that the poisoner has given most attention to well-cared-for and valuable dogs or much-prized family pets.
