CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, Mr A. J. Graham presiding. There were several apologies for absence. The annual report (as previously published) was adooted, also a statement of receipts and expenditure showing a credit balance of £156 7s 2d. Mr Graham said that, in the absence of the president (Mr M. H. Oram) abroad, he had departed from the usual custom of furnishing a lengthy address, as the ground was largely covered in the Press and the Year Book, and would be referred to at the annual meeting. Mr Graham’s further remarks are published elsewhere. The following nominees for the council, not being in excess of the number required, were elected to the positions: —Messrs R. L. C. Aitchison, E. G. Bennett, W. H. Brown, W. H. Cadwallader, A. Clark, F. A. Cousins, H. L. Cunninghame, H E. Edmunds, M. A Eliott, A. J. Graham. K. A. Henderson G. I. McGregor. M. H. Oram, W. G. Ross, R. H Spencer, J. H. Stevens, A. P. Stuart, H. E. Townshend, M. N. Wallace and W. E. Winks. , , , , Mr Graham extended a warm welcome to the two new members of the council, Messrs Henderson and Spencer, both of whom had ahead- rendered a deal of service to the chamber. Much would be expected of them, he A discussion was conducted on the hour of meeting, the consensus of opinion being that the afternoon meetings had been more successful, and that Thursday was not the best day. It was decided to hold the next council meeting on a Tuesday and to again consider the matter then.
