TAKARO CLUB’S OPENING

350 PEOPLE PRESENT

The Takaro Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club’s opening on Wednesday was attended by a large crowd of enthusiasts, no less than 350 people being served at afternoon tea. After the official opening by the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford), play was entered upon in all three branches. Eollowing are the detailed results in the bowling section when rinks play was engaged in:—Feilding (Duncan, Campbell, Nesbitt, Allen, skip) 26 v. Northern (Lynch, Palmer, Wort, Rabone, skip) 13; Foxton (Chalk. Newth, Christie, Huntley, skip) 24 v. Dannevirke (Broughton, Smith, Barker, Gosling, skip) 14; Palmerston North (Morris, Mochan, Lawson, Ross, skip) 20 v. Oroua (Campbell, Buchanan, Petrie, Andrews, skip) 13; Takaro (Mouldey, McEwen, J. Child, Snell, skip) 23 v. Terrace End (Mewton, Dalziel, Robinson, Christiansen, skip) 19; Takaro (Christensen, Binns, Boris, Littlejohn) 21 v. Takaro (Parkes, Blaxland, Ball, Monks, skip) 18; Manawatu (Bates, Cockburn, Barnes, Gerrand, skip) 22 v. Bulls (Ransom, Smart, Croucher, Ingram, skip) 21; Terrace End (Knowles, Bee, Rennett, Collier, skip) 25 v. Shannon (Hyde, Hook, Clayton, Alexander, skip) 20; Pahiatua (Murphy, Walker, Kershaw, Hodd, skip) 21 v.. Woodville (Morgan, McLachlan, Henderson, Bly, skip) 18. In the croquet section the members and visitors, the latter including representatives from the Foxton, Bulls, Feilding, Oroua, Northern, Manawatu, Terrace Ena, Shannon and Kimbolton Clubs, engaged in competition play with the following results: Pegging out, Mrs Scroggs; ladder, Mrs Robertson; zig-zag, Mrs McMurray; golf, Mrs Wilson (Northern), 6 In the evening a card party was held in the pavilion when the close of an interesting contest found Mrs Jennings and Mr Bovis the winners. Prizes for the year’s aggregate were also awarded, Mrs and Mr Bovis be r ing the successful competitors. ;<.) ■
