WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.
YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Trading was not very active on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, but there was a good demand spread over most sections and prices were fairly steady. No business lias been recorded in Wellington this week in Government loans, which aro firmly held. Yesterday imain saw a keen demand in this section, with a firmer tendency in prices, but few sellers were showing. City Municipal 5i per cents, were sought without, responso at £lOl, an advanco of 5s to 10s. Wellington Gas debentures were 10s up at £lOl. Banks were rather quiet yesterday, the main featuro being a lise of lOd in New Zcalands to 47s lOd, sellers asking 48s 6d. E.S. and A. Banks had business at £5 19s 6d to £6. Pastoral and financial shares wore firm at late rates. Now Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. per cent, stock, 1940, was wanted at £59, and there wero buyers for Perpetual Trustees at 50s and Trustees Executors at 51s 6d. There was a good demand for gas shares and two sales of Wellingtons wero reported at 345. The preference wore firmer at 225, sellers 245. Insurance shares wero quiet and New Zcalands wore easier for sales at 54s 6d and 54s Bd. New Zealand Refrigerating were slightly lower. P. and O. deferred stocks sold strongly at 24s and more were wanted at 23s 6d. Union Steam, preference, were 6d up at 245. Breweries were fairly firm, Carltons at 40s, New Zcalands at 37s 6d, and Tooths at 42s 9d. Investors showed keen interest in miscellaneous industrials, prices 'generally being very firm, with few sellers showing. Gold-mining shares were less active. Waihis sold at 26s and more wore wanted at 25s 9d. Blaekwaters were firm at 34s and Mount Lyolls were steady at 24s 3d.
