HIGH COMMISSIONERSHIP.
HON. R. MASTERS’S PROSPECTS. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. Speculation as to the appointment of a successor to Sir Thomas Wilford in the High Commissionership has died down in Parliamentary lobbies. The name of Hon. R. Masters has been prominently linked with the forecasts made from time to time, but his acceptance of the position can be definitely ruled out. ' 8 Although Mr Masters lias all the qualifications and equipment for the office and would no doubt be approached, it is generally known that he has considerable commercial interests in New Zealand and, therefore, the appointment as High Commissioner would not be likely to interest him.
