UNUSUAL INTEREST.

MANY APPLICANTS FOR LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. , WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. Rarely in New Zealand’s history has membership of the Legislative Council offered such attraction as appears to be the case at present. It is stated that no fewer than 100 applications for consideration in the fresh appointments, have been received by Ministers. . When the question was raised with the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, he smilingly replied that the “statistics” relating to such a matter did not interest him, although he was aware that more than usual interest in the subject was being displayed. He could give no information as to when the fresh appointments would be made.
