OTAKI MEETING.
PLATEAU THE CHIEF WINNER 3 NAVAHO ANNEXES THE SPRINT. The Otaki Maori Racing Club’s meeting was concluded on Saturday in dull weather, rain falling during the last two events. Favourites had a bad innings, only one prevailing. This was Navaho in a field of three in the sprint race. The chief handicap fell to the consistent Plateau. Generally, the racing was keener with better finishes than on the opening day. the turnover for the day was £SBBI, a decrease of £6OO 15s on- the £6681 15s put through on the second day last year, the total for the meeting was £12,398 compared with £13,553 15s last year, a total decrease of £1155 15s. The meeting was well conducted and the time-table strictly adhered to. RACING IN DETAIL. PUICETOI HACK HURDLES, of 70 sovs; second 10 sovs, third 5 sovs. One mile and a half. 2- Mr R. B. Foote’s b g KIMBO (Autumn Ahuru), aged, 10.10 (Tinsley) 1 3- Mrs W. A. Fuller’s b m REVISION, 6yrs, car. 9.5 (Nicol) ... 2 1-1 Mr G. R. Brown’s ch g HIGH SOCIETY, aged, 10.2 (Thomson) ... 3 Also started: 4-4 Palace '9.3 (Jenkins), 5-5 Paleta 9.0 (Mcßae), 6-6 Miss Energetic car. 9.1 i (W. <!Blanche). Two lengths; four lengths. Paleta was fourth, 'lime, 2.52. The favourite High Society and Revision mado the pace, but Kimbo took charge over the business stages and had no difficulty in beating Revision, with High Society a poor third and Paleta lourth, followed by Palace. Revision jumped much better than on the first day and but for a blunder two fences from home would have been hard to beat. High Society was disappointing. Also started : 7-8 Aweketia (Anderson), 12-13 Anita May (H. F. Gray), 6-6 Arctic Region (Thomson), 4-5 Arauline (Goldfinch), 11-10 Maypay (L. Dulieu), 13-12 Misfire (Ridgway), 9-9 Maine (Atkins), 5-4 Pheon (Wilson), 10-11 Raparahara (Wiggins), 8-7 Waipiro (B. H. Morris). A head; three lengths. Arctic Region was fourth. Time, 1.0 4-5. The Trial Plate saw a very close finish between the favourites, Etiquette and Prostration. They were in front from the start, and then Prostration dropped in behind; Arctic Region and Hunting Lodge were also prominent. Prostration challenged in the run home, but Etiquette just hung on to beat him by a head. Hunting Lodge was a poor third, just beating Arctic Region. Then came Maine, Pheon and Arauline. Morris), 3-3 Bettwsycoed 8.5 (Wiggins), 6-7 Yvette car. 7.0 (Glading), 7-6 Princess Dawn 7.5 (Duncan). A length and a half each way. Bettwsycoed was fourth. Time, 1.28 3-5. Eprigram was first out and ran a couple of furlongs in front with Pegged Exchange and Bettwyscoed. Bettwsycoed ran to the front five furlongs from home, and on the turn Bonnie Vale ran up. Bettwsyoed, Pegged Exchange and Bonnie Vale led Epigram into line, when Epigram threw out a determined challenge. Bonnie Vale, however, was just as determined and held him off decisively, though with nothing in hand. Wasteland was a good third, with Bettswsycoed fourth; then camo Princess Dawn and Pegged Exchange. Allison’s b g BRAMBLETORN, aged, 8.6 (Atkins) 3 Also started: 3-2 Gold Trail 8.8 (Voitre), 6- Retract 8.3 (Goldfinch), 5-4 Saltpot car. 7.5 (Broughton). Half a length; three lengths. Saltpot was fourth. Time, 1.52. Plateau showed consistency by annexing the chief handicap race. Saltpot went with him to the straight from Takakua and Gold Trail, with Brambletown handy and Retract tailing off. In the straight Plateau drew out and was challenged by Takakua, but ho hold on to win decisively. Brambletorn was a poor third, just beating Saltpot. Gold Trail was next. Time, 1.13 2-5. Acceptable led all the way with Haulbowline handy. The latter challenged in the straight, but Acceptable held him off nicely. Acrelict was a long way back third with Lackstone fourth and Ma Cheri .heading the bunch.

Navaho beat his two opponents in the open sprint with case. Sir Pombal got a flying start but the other pair ran past him after going a couple o,f furlongs. Once in the straight Navaho wont on to win with ease. Sir Pombal finished on again tor second place over Arrow Lad. RAHUI HACK HANDICAP, of 70 sovs, second 10 sovs, third 5 sovs. Minimum, 8 stono. Dulieu), 8-5 Platter 8.0 (Atkins), 6-8 Quebec 8.0 (Wilson) 7-6 Whetuma 8.0 (Duncan), 10-9 Cancfield car. 8.1 (Anderson). A neck each way. Whetuma was fourth. Time, 1.43 3-5. Tho order at the start was To Ua, Royal Dash, Quebec, and Tranquillity, with Whetuma heading the bunch. Hazoor moved up to the leading division on the homo turn and the order into the straight was Royal Dash, Tranquillity, To Ua and Hazoor from Whetuma. In a battling finish between four horses Hazoor on tho outside wore down Tranquillity with Royal Dash and Whetuma right up. There was a gap to tho bunch headed by Te Ua, Mercian Prince and Mon Roi.
WAIRONGOMAI HANDICAP, of 100 sovs, second 15 sovs, third 10 sovs. Minimum, 8 stone. Seven furlongs. 6-4 Mr B. Burgess’s b g ATHOLSPEAR (Greyspcar—Lady Athol), aged, 8.5 (Carroll) 1 3-2 Mr R. E. Hatch’s br m EQUITANT, aged, 9.3 (Voitre) 2 5-6 Mr W. H. Gaisford’s b g ESTEEM, syrs, 8.7 (B. 11. Morris) 3 Also started: 2-2 La Poupco 9.2 (Goldfinch), 4-5 Aston car. 9.0 (Tinsley), 7-7 Arikira 8.9 (Jenkins), 1-1 Lady Spy 8.1 (Atkins). A neck; a length. Lady Spy was fourth. Time, 1.30. Lady Spy, Esteem and Aston, with | the latter settling down in front, wore the order from tho start from Equitant, La’ Poupco and Atholspcar. Aston was beaten on the turn. Esteem, Lady Spy and Equitant leading into tho straight with Atholspcar moving up. Esteem mado a big bid and was in front with a halffurlong to go, but Equitant wore him down only to go under herself to a determined run by Atholspcar, with Lady Spy right up fourth. Lo Poupeo was next.
