' (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKARONGO, Oct. 6. At the euchre party and dance held in tho hall on Tuesday night tho prizes were won by tho following: Ladies, Mrs McLoavey and Miss Allen; men, Messrs Hencghan and Dixon. There was a good number of players present. Supper was provided by the ladies. Tho music for tho dancing was supplied by local players Mr H Gore carried out the duties of M.G. The Whakarongo School Committee held their monthly meeting on Monday night. Those present were: Messrs Harrowfield, Johansen, Crcswell, Woodd, and Mrs Eegers (head teacher). Mr Harrowfield occupied the chair in the absenco of Mr Stewart. Tho head teacher reported that since the reopening of the third term tho attendanco had risen to 56 pupils, which would assist in keeping the average up to the grade the school should bo in. Trees and seeds bad beon planted, having been sent by tho Forestry Department. Mr MeMurtrie chief inspector, visited the school and reported satisfactorily on the work that was done both in the school and tho grounds There wero nine entries for the Mangold Club this year and a miniature cup had been presented for first prize. Mr E. H. Lange, instructor, would shortlybring tho necessary manure for tho club, while the seed which was left last season required • measuring out. This concluded tho report. A letter was received from the board congratulating the committee on the apearancc of tho igrounds. It was decided to- grant Friday, November '3, as a holiday for . the children to attend tho Manawatu Show. The secretary was instructed to procure cinders for tho footpaths bn the roadside preparatory to tar sealing. •
