CRICKET.
TEAMS AT PRACTICE. With the opening of the cricket season sent down for the coming week-end, local clubs were engaged in mustering their forces on Saturday. Old Boys and High School engaged in a friendly game at the High School grounds when the former eleven had first strike to compile 104, O’Keefe and Cottier retiring after compiling 23 and 20 respectively. High School replied with 109 for the loss of five wickets, Arnott, Loudon and McVicar all retiring after reaching the 20 mark. Rain .set in in the closing stages of Old Boys innings and the ball became increasingly difficult to manipulate. The Sportsground was a hive of activity, the Palmerston Club having a good muster of players of senior and junior grade at net practice, while other junior clubs were engaged at other points of the playing areas. The United Club members failed to turn out and, with rain bringing the practices to a premature conclusion, the activities for the day were not as profitable as had been desired.
