SOLEMN RITUAL.

MAORI “KING’S” FUNERAL. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Oct. 9. Solemn ritual attended the burial on Taupiri Mountain yesterday of the Maori “king.” Terata Ma.huta Te Wherowhero. Thousands of Maoris, representative of the principal tribes of the North Island, were present to pay their respects to the memory of the leader of the Waikato tribes. Many hundreds of Europeans lined the roadway beside the Waikato River. Among those present were Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, the late Mr 11. E. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, whose death from heart failure followed with tragic suddenness later, Sir Apirana Ngata, Mr W. J. Jordan, M.P., Mr A. S. Richards M.P., Mr Taite Te Toto, M.P.. Hon! j. Trevetliick, M.L.C., and Rev. A. J. Seamer, President of the Methodist Conference. Mrs Coates was also present and the Parliamentary party was given place of honour following the burial of the casket upon a knoll which has been the scene of so many important Maori funerals. The days of preparation, during which appropriate mourning was observed at Waahi Pa, led to the actual ceremony. Waahi was thronged by several thousands of natives for days previously.
