LONDON FATALITY.
UNCONTROLLED CAR’S ESOAPADE. CHANGING OF THE GUARD. LONDON, Oct. 7. While descending Constitution Hill, a motor car swerved opposite Buckingham Palace during the changing of tho Guard, smashed into a lamp-post, and scattered the crowd. Three aircraftsmen of the Royal Air Force were fatally injured, three others are in a critical condition, and 24 other people received more or less minor injuries. Royal Air Force aircraftsmen sightseeing in London were the chief sutfeiers. Two died, including one whose feet were so injured that a doctor amputated them on the pavement with a pair of scissors. Two others were injured seriously. Another doctor administered morphia to the victims. Eye-witnesses of the accident are of the opinion that the car swerved to avoid a youth stepping off a footpath, after which the steering gear failed. The scene was like a dressing station, police rolling their tunics into pillows for the injured. The ceremony of changing the Guard was not stopped, and'the band resumed after a few minutes. ■ A sentry knocked down by tbe falling lamp-post had a narrow escape from death, but he immediately arose, grasped his rifle, and stood to attention. His Majesty sent an equerry to the hospital to inquire after the injured.
