FARMERS’ UNION.

MAN A WAT U EXECUTIVE MEETING. The Manawatu provincial branch of the Wellington District of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met at Levin, on Saturday. Those present were: —Messrs J. A. AlcLeavey (chairman), J. Gloyn, J. T. Kent, L. Ballinger, L. H. Best, H. J. Richards, A. G. Dear, B. G. Gower, 11. McLeavey H. Denton, and J. D. Avery, while apologies were received from Messrs J. Boyce, H. Bowling and R. C. Bishop. , Arrangements were left in the hands of the chairman for the visit of a representative of the Auckland branch on the Dominion executive to the Manawatu executive to discuss matters in relation to provincial representation and other qi general interest to the provinces. The meeting is to be arranged to coincide with an ordinary meeting of the Manawatu executive. A report was made on the visit ol Air Thomas Baxter to New Zealand, the opinion being expressed that nothing very effective had resulted. It was decided to try to inaugurate an annual picnic among the members of the union. The matter is to be referred to the various branches for discussion with the suggestion that the gathering be held some time in Alarch and near Levin, that being the most central part of the district. Foot and mouth disease, with regard to the lifting of the embargo on imported stock, was discussed and the views of various persons throughout the Dominion were quoted, the consensus jof opinion being that the embargo should not be lifted. The meeting decided to affirm the previous resolution passed against the lifting of the embargo. Notice of motion having been given by Air J. T. Kent, the following motion was passed: —“That delegates from the Alanawatu executive attending the Dominion executive of the Dominion conference be compelled to support all remits passed by the said ■executive when instructed so to do.”
