THE MALA CASE.
INTERESTING EVIDENCE. SYDNEY, June 25. Neither John'T. Morran, clerk of tho Australian Jockey Club office, nor Edgar Bell, sporting journalist, saw any sign of lameness in Mala prior to the running of tho Derby last year. Thus evidence was given on resumption to-sdav of tho hearing of the claim by H. E. Russoll, owner of the colt, for £2OOO damages from the Commissioner of Road Transport and Tramways, following injuries tlio horse received when struck by a tram on tho morning of the last A.J.C. Derby.
Hcdicy Ward, turf writer of flic Sydney Morning Herald, gave evidence that tho Derby was won by the belter horse, Talking, "and that the tactics employed by Alala’s jockey suited Talking. Dudley Smith, A.J.C. judge, said that in consequence of rumours in regard fo Mala bo paid particular attention to that colt before the running of the Derby. Witness saw no sign of lameness, fright, or fractiouisness. Edgar Beil said be noted that Mala appeared sound in track work at Melbourne and prior to the Victoria Derby. The case was adjourned.
