AMERICAN STRIKE.
ARGUMENT OVER PROCEDURE. Received June 28, 11.15 a.in. COLUMBUS (Ohio), June 27. Governor Davcy declared that the Secretary of Labour (Miss Perkins) bad asked him to get Mr Girdler and Mr Purnell, steel company executives, to come here and ‘‘to keep them hero until they sign an agreement with the strikers.” Mr Davcy replied that he had no power for such proceedings and asserted that it would be kidnapping. Miss Perkins, speaking from Washington, said: “I did not inake such an unwarranted and high-handed proposal but merely suggested that ho use a subpoena to get officials of the union and the companies together round the conference table.” It is reported from Youngstown that, under the protection of the militia, 18,556 men resumed work at the Youngstown Sheet Tube Co. and the Republic Steel Corporation plants.
