POTATO EXPORTS.
SHIPMENTS TO SOUTH AMERICA CHRISTCHURCH.. June 25. Activity in the grain and produce market continues to be confined practically entirely to the shipment of potatoes to South America. After the end of the month there arc three ships —the Huntingdon and Eordsdale to sail about July 14, which will take between them about 1800 tons, and the Matakana in August with about 1300 tons. If these ships get away with their quotas a total of about 17,000 tons will have been shipped to South America. The clearing of this quantity has been of the greatest assistance to the New Zealand market. At present there is a good demand for Dakotas for shipment, and the price is, £6 a ton on trucks. Whites are scarce here, but there are ample supplies in Timaru, where the price is about £5 10s on trucks. The North Island appears to be without any interest in this market and though there are of course a few orders, the trade is small._ Reports from the North Island indicate that stocks there arc beginning to be used up and that there must be a better inquiry here shortly. The rest of the markets are extremely dull, even for June, which is always a' dull month.
