SOCCER TEST
ENGLISHMEN WIN. TWELVE GOALS TO ONE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 27. Before a crowd of only 5000 at Athletic Park, Wellington, on Saturday afternoon the English amateur soceer team scored a convincing win over New Zealand in the Third Test by 12 goals to one. Rain squalls and a biting southerly made conditions unpleasant and the ground was greasy after the heavy rain. The English team were never in danger of defeat. The first score came four minutes from the start and thereafter the visitors invaded the New Zealand goal mouth, scoring eight goals before the change over. Cameron Lad a hectic time in goal, but though the score continued to mount he stopped many more shots than he let through. The New Zealand backs Cawthery and Stone were nonplussed by the clever manoeuvres of the Englishmen who were constantly changing positions during attack. The tourists again exploited the third back game with marked success, Joy, the tall centre half, proving capable of breaking up single-handed the majority of the New Zealand attacks. OTHER RESULTS.
