OBITUARY.

Mil SAMUEL GEORGE CHANDLER

The death occurred on the 21st inst. of a highly respected resident of the Kimbolton district, Mr S. G. Chandler, whose sudden passing cast a gloom over the district, where he and his family had made many friends. Horn in Leighton Buzzard, England, in 1872, deceased left London with his parents on September 25, 1874, and landed in Picton on January 10, 1875. Until the time of his m.vriage in 1897, deceased worked on his father’s farm at Blenheim. His father, the late Mr G. Chandler, had at one time resided at Newbury, while his wife was the second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs T. P. Ransom, well-known members of the Marlborough district. The late Mr Chandler carried on business as a road contractor until 1910, when he took up farming at Carnarvon and later at Kairanga, and for the last twelve years had been farming for Sir George Mcßeth, of Kimbolton. on whose property his death took place. Deceased was "a very cpiiet and homely man and respected by all who knew him. Besides his wife there are left five sons and two daughters—Messrs Hoy (Feilding), Percy (Auckland), Lyle (Palmerston), Claude (Eeatherston) and George (Kimbolton). and Mesdames G. li. Hooper (Bunnythorpe) and L. A. Hooper (Carterton). His sisters are Mesdames D. Walker (Seddon), T. Neame (Tokomaru) and Mrs Fred Allerby (Colyton),' while his brothers are Messrs William (Auckland), James (Matamata) and Edward (Palmerston North). The funeral took place on Wednesday, the 23rd inst., and was attended by many friends and sympathisers. Rev. Mr Finery, of Kimbolton, conducted the services at the home and the graveside. Adjutant Armstrong, of the Salvation Army, assisting. The pall-bearers at the house were Afessrs Claude, Lvlo and Percy (sons), and Afessrs H. Hooper, W. Walker and J. Chandler (relatives), while at the graveside Afessrs A. Lawson, B. Smith, R. Lawrence, A. Thompson, G. Aicßeth and T. Ednev acted as bearers.
