BATTLE FOR MADRID
HEAVY REBEL ATTACK. DESIRE TO ENCIRCLE CAPITAL. MOORS TAKING PART. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received Juno 28, 10.5 a.m. MADRID, June 27. Scores of insurgent ’planes, 40 tanks, Moorish cavalry and infantry participated in a heavy insurgent concentration on the Jarama River sector at the week-end. The Government torces counter-attacked and for six miles along tlie Valencia railway sector tlie ground was littered with dead and wounded. The rebel commanders evidently seek to straighten out tne lines south-east ot Madrid and then cut olt tlie capital from the Mediterranean coast by an encirclement. There was also heavy fighting at the week-end on the Guadarrania sector.
