CARGO SHIP ON FIRE.

CREW TAKE TO THE BOATS. LATER PICKED UP. NEW YORK, June 27. It is learned that the crew of 40 of the British freighter Sandgate Castle, .vJiich is afire in mid-Atlantic, abandoned the ship and took to the lifeboats. The Dollar liner President Pierce and the British cargo vessel Blairspey are speeding to the rescue after picking up the S.O.S. Fire broke out between decks while en route from New York to Cape Verde Islands. There are no passengers. A later message says the President Pierce picked up the crew of the Sandgate Castle at 27.15 north latitude, 60.06 west longitude, from the lifeboats. All are safe. The Sandgate Castle is sinking rapidly.
