FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

COURT MANAWATU A.O.F. The fortnightly meeting of Court Manawatu, A.0.F., was held on Monday evening, when C.R. Bro. Burgess presided over a record attendance of members and visitors. In giving tlieir report on sick members, the Woodwards stated that, while one had gone on the funds, several had declared off, leaving six still on the funds. A good deal of correspondence was dealt with, amongst which was an invitation to attend an installation of officers and social evening from Court Ilinemoa; several brothers signified their intention of being present. An invitation was received from the Plunket Society to be represented at their annual meeting. P.C.R.’s Bros. Moore and Hanna were appointed scrutineers for the election of officers, which resulted as follows: C.R.. Bro. Pickering; S.C.R.. Bro. Hancock; treasurer, Bro. Fletcher; secretary. Bro. Edwards; S.W., Bro. Paul ; J.AV., Bro. Ogier; 5.8., Bro. Bailey; J. 8.. Bro. Penn; M.S., Bro. Holgerson; F.P.C.R., Bro. Burgess. A challenge to a game of bowls was received from the 1.0. R. Tent for the 1.0. R. Shield, and it was decided to match them at a later date. The nomination of five candidates for membership constituted a record over a period of years and showed that competition was keen amongst members to obtain the prize for the nomination of most new members. This concluded tile sitting and all retired to supper, after which a game of bowls was played against Loyal Manawatu for the 1.0. R. Shield, which resulted in a win by 3 points for Court Manawatu.
