GAS WORKS BALLOT.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 22
Should the ballot conducted on AVednesday and Thursday of employees of gas works favour the formation of a national union, it is stated as likely that a further ballot will be taken amors skilled tradesmen in the industry, who «cre excluded from this week’s ballot to cee if they are prepared to join in the movement. The Federation of Labour has under consideration the question of such a vote byskilled tradesmen. The Labour Department, which conducted the ballot, distributed 543 voting papers in Auckland, together with addressed envelopes to the Secretary of Labour, who is virtually the returning officer. Members of two unions only, the Auckland Gasworkers’ Union and the Auckland Clerical Gasworkers’ Union, were eligible to vote, and as the eligible voters throughout New Zealand number approximately- 1700, it will be seen that the Auckla.nd vote is likely to be important in the ultimate result.
