HARBOUR BOARDS DISPUTE.
GOOD PROGRESS MADE.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. July 24. Considerable progress in the New Zealand harbour boards’ dispute was reported by the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr Price, when the dispute was adjourned last night. The points still in dispute are to be considered at another meeting to be arranged in the near future. Two and a-lialf weeks have been spent ill the consideration of approximately 1000 classifications which time and custom have established at different ports, and a substantial advance lias been made since a separate basis for each, port was agreed to. Wages, hours and holidays have been substantially agreed upon for fifteen ports, and the six remaining ports will be considered when the council resumes, probably in a fortnight from now. A number* of minor norts have been struck off the list of parties because of the limited scope of their operations * but recommendations are to be made’ to some of the smaller boards with the object of obtaining an improvement in their wages and conditions.
