OBITUARY.

CAPTAIN G. LOVELL. There passed away at his residence. York Street, Feilding, suddenly yesterday morning Captain George Major Lovell, at the age of 74 years. He was the eldest son of Major Joseph Lovell, of the Royal Horse Artillery, England, and was born in Dorset in 18G2. His life was devoted to a military career and when he retired he held the rank of captain. He served with distinction in the Boer War and also took part in the Great War and in the Battle of Mons. Later he was invalided home and retired from active service and came to New Zealand in 1922, since when he had lived in Feilding. Prior to the Great War he was stationed at the Gibraltar and Bermuda garrison stations. Captain Lovell was of a quiet and retiring dis position and, although in himself proud of his accomplishments, he refrained from discussing or relating his many and varied experiences in military life. There were many stories he could have unfolded, but such was not his nature. The deceased gentleman took a keen interest in gardening and spent much of his time in his garden. Until his death he had enjoyed good health, and yesterday morning he was in normal health, but suffered a heart seizure and passed away half an hour later. He leaves his widow and two married daughters to mourn his passing. The funeral, which was of a private nature, took place to-day, the service being conducted by Archdeacon F. H. Petrie.
