COUNCIL OF SPORT.
SECOND CONFERENCE HELD. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 23. A second conference of national sports bodies interested in the proposal to form a; National Council of Sport has been convened by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. F,. Parry, for August 5 at Parliament Buildings, Wellington. The plan was first broached by Mr Parry last November and a conference of representatives of 25 Dominion and Wellington sports bodies was held on March 4. The Minister explained his proposals in general terms, stating that the object was co-ordination and sensible national direction of sport in the interests of physical and mental health of the people. He mentioned particularly the control of sports grounds, swimming baths and gymnasia, and the provision for instruction and physical education. Delegates agreed that their respective bodies should consider the question and submit definite schemes to the Minister, who would call a second conferSnce later.
Mr Parry said the sectional reports which had been sent to him provided a wealth of material for discussion, and the interest which different bodies had shown made him confident that a good result would be achieved.
