TROOPS WITHDRAW.
SITUATION EASTER. TOKIO, July 23. The Minister of War (General Sugiyama) told Cabinet that the situation was easier owing to the peaceful withdrawal of the Chinese 37th Division. The Foreign Office spokesman says that Japan is watching the proper observance of Mr Sung’s agreement, which, lie declared, does not contain political terms. Nevertheless, a Shanghai message discloses fears that Mr Sung has doublecrossed the Nanking Government as he has persistently refused to disclose the terms of the agreement.
SOME DEFIANCE SHOWN. Received July 24. 9.40 a.m. PEKIN, July 23. It is reported that the Japanese are reinforcing the front lines as defiant "roups of the Thirty,-seventh Division refuse to withdraw until the Japanese return to Fengtai.

An official Government statement warns Chinese and Japanese residents that in the event of hostilities in China it will not hesitate to use full powers against the trouble-makers. The Government refuses to sav whether the statement originated in Wliite--11 The police reveal that a Japanese fisherman was tripped and lieatem hut not seriously injured last night by a trail" of Chinese youths. This morning a party of 15 Jannncse girls' going to school were roughly handled by Chinese hoys.
