RANGITIKEI MEETING.
CUP TO SLEEPY. PAKANUI IN FORM. MARTON, July. 24. The Rangitikei Hunt Club held its annual meeting at. Marton this afternoon. The day was fine, and the course in good order. There was a large attendance. During the day £9193 10s was put through the totalisator, as against £3040 10s last year. The Rangitikei Hunt Cup Steeplechase was won by Sleepy, who was ridden by Ins trainer, H. Dulicu. Middle won the Bracelet, and the principal flat race was won by Pakanui. Lady Hoariri, Final, and Glynne Park began well and nearing the straight these three and Conversion, Brilliant Acre and Rucnzori were the leaders. Getting a nice run on the rails, Final drew up to Lady Hoariri and the two came away. Lady Hoariri hold a narrow advantage all the way to the post and won by a head. ROSEBANK HURDLES, of £llO. One mile and a half.

A neck; six lengths. Donegal was fourth. Time, 2.59 4-5. Trackman and Glcnthawr* made the running with Master Norval and Widden handy. In the last half-mile Unexpected moved up quickly. Ho entered the straight well clear of the others, and, though Trackman came again, lie won by a neck. Under pressure Master Norval finished on to beat Donegal for thiic) place. Widden, Scakalo and Bazainc were next. Unexpected won well, but Trackman was not disgraced. CLOSEBURN HACK FLYING HANDICAP, o I £IOO. Seven furlongs.

Dawning Light hurried to the front, and Aube, Old Surrey and Warehi wore prominent. Old Surrey took charge entering the straight and won nicely by a length from Dawning Light, xxvho paid a good dividend. Hunting Queen was a fair third, and Gladium was fourth. Six lengths each wax. Hymgrcat; was fourth. Time, 5.33 2-5.
Miss Pango and Sleepy were the favourites for the Rangitikei Hunt Cup Steeple chase and were much too good for the rest of the field; tbeir prospects looked bright throughout the race. Mi*s Pan go’s jumping was not all that could be desired, and failure in that department cost hci her chance. Sleepy shaped wcli throughout and toward t.hc end of the contest began to assert himself. He had Miss Pango well beaten at the end and passed tho post with half-a-dozen lengths to spare Evermore, an Autumn gelding carrying Mr K. McK. Duncan’s colours, beat the others, but was an indifferent third.

Also started: 1 Catalogue 8.12, 3 Brazen King 8.2, 6 Mustang 7.7, 7 Fulojoy 7.7. A head; two lengths. Brazen King was fourth. Time, 1.20 2-5. Airing wont to the front and led from Fuiojoy. Pakanui was next, then Brazen King and Tail Light. Airing still had charge entering the straight, but Pakanui and Tail Light challenged, and Pakanui got up at the death to win by a head trom Airing. Tail Light ran a. good race in third place, a couple of lengths away, and xvas running on solidly. The race xvas not far enough for Brazen King, and Fulojoy failed to stay.

Gentlemen riders xvero in the saddles in the Otairi Ladies’ Bracelet, xvhich xvas xvon by Middle from the fax-ourite, Hirangi, xvith All Spirit at the head of tho bthers. Middle, xvho xvas ridden by Mr N. Davidson, paid a good dividend. He had only a neck to spare from Hirangi, xvho xvas ridden by his oxvner, Mr K. McK. Duncan.
SPRINGROVE FAREWELL HACK HANDICAP, of £95. Six furlongs.

Joviality demonstrated tho possession of ample speed, but he docs not stay xvell and that has been tho cause of several recent failures. Winsome Lu ran a really good race, and proved more solid that many expected.
1 Tlie latest additions (o_ F. Gilchrist’s team are Tybalt and a rising two-year-old by Captain Bunsby from Gold Money. At present Tybalt is having an easy time, but it will not be long before ho rejoins the active brigade at Ellerslic. Although an aged gelding, Tybalt is one of the hardy sort, and it should not bo difficult to place him to advantage when he strikes 1 form again.
