THE REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. ST. ANDREW’S BEATEN. The weather conditions were excellent for soccer at the North Street Park on Saturday afternoon, when matches were played under the auspices of the Manawatu Football Association. The games were fast, and the absence of wind, although light rain fell toward the end of the day, was most welcome. The surprise of the day was St. Andrew’s defeat at the hands of Thistle. It was the first time they had been beaten this season. The Manawatu representative team to meet Wanganui, at Wanganui, next week, was chosen, and is as follows: ICempson; Broughton, Oman; Laing, Thompson, McSheffery; Hooker, Williams, Allan, Blaikie, Lyon. Reserves: Curtis, D. Anderson-, T. Downes. The results of Saturday’s matches are as follow: • Senior.-—Thistle 3 v. St. Andrew’s 1; Rovers 6 v. Athletic 0. Fourth grade.—Te Awe Awe 6 v. Y.M.C.A. 1; Rovers, a bye. Fifth grade.—St. Paul’s 1 v. Technical 1; Y.M.C.A. bent Rovers by default. Primary grade.—Convent 1 v. Russell Street 0; Central 1 v. College Street 0. A SPECTACULAR* GAME. The teams In the St. Andrew’s v. Thistle match were: St. Andrew’s.—Chilton, Broughton, Young, McSheffery, Thompson, Gatley, Hoare, Lock, Bell, Martin, Lyon. Thistle.—Kempson, Curtis, Grant, Moore, Forbes, Watson, Hooker, Peterson, Allan, Blaikie, T. Downes. In the first half St. Andrew’s repeatedly penetrated the Thistle defences. The first goal came when Allan, well supported by his forwards, broke through the St. Andrew’s cordon and beat the goalkeeper. Up and down play ensued until a pretty duel of alternate foot and head work carried the game into the St. Andrew’s territory. St. Andrew’s broke clear, but Blaikie intercepted and crossed to Allan, who scored. Downes handled soon afterwards and St. Andrew’s were awarded a free kick, but it proved abortive. At half-time the score was 2—o in favour of Thistle. In the second spell St. Andrew’s pressed their opponents and Curtis, the Thistle left back, destroyed the value of Kempson’s spectacular save by kicking into his own goal. After this incident Thistle were apprehensive of close play and the game became a series of rushes and wild kicks. Away came the Thistle forwards and a long chance shot made by Hooker was circumvented by Chilton. A subtle move on the part of Allan found a clear field ahead and his shot proved effective. Tense moments were frequent and both teams exerted themselves to score, but at the final whistle no change had been made. The referee was Mr W. Jacques. ATHLETIC v. ROVERS. The teams in the Athletic v. Rovers match were: — Athletic.—Brill, Dingwall, Warner, Davidson, C. Hart, Armstrong, L. Allan, Brougham, Crowe, Sullivan, Blummont. Rovers. —D. Anderson, G. Lang, I*. Hart, K. Anderson, Fairclough, Williams, C. Anderson, Holland, Kendall, Holden, Young. Rovers’ ability to play a good aggressive game was shown when soon after the start two or their men, Holden and Williams, had succeeded m penetrating the Athletic ranks. The positional play was commendable, Athletic being particularly fine exponents. Rovers were inclined to commit the fault of over-kicking. F. Hart and Holland both played doggedly. Scores for Rovers were made by Holden (d), Williams (2) and Holland. The referee was Mr Geekie. RESULTS ELSEWHERE. 'Dunedin.—Mosgiel 3 v. Seaclitf 0; Northern 3 v. Maori Hill 1; Roslyn Wakan v.
