(From Our Own Corrcepondent.) WHAKAROXG.O, July 24. The smoke concert arranged by! Mr J. Morris for Hall Queen funds was a decided success. There were about 90 present, a large percentage being visitors from outside the district. Sympathy was felt for Air AJorris, who through illness, wee unable to attend. Toast-', honoured were as follow, Mr J. Lynch being toastmaster:— Loyal toast; “Old Pupils,” Air H. Gore— Mr E. Hcneghan; “Donors,” Mr J. Lynch —Messrs S. Evans,. Davis, Hooper, and Grant; “Guests,” Mr E. Hcneghan—All Gibbs; “Jubilee Queens,” Air J. Lynch— Air J. Romle.v: “Old Residents,” Air RomIcy—Air J. A'JcLcavcy; “Organisers,” Mr E. Hcneghan—Messrs P. Kooliicr, H. Gore and A. Crawford. Items given wore: —Air A. Sundborn, guitar solo; cornet solo; orchestral; Air Wilson, humorous item; Air McDonald, songs; Messrs Wilson and Sutton, humorous item; Air Jones, humour. Mr S. Evans, songs. Mr T. Ksplin has returned to his home in Fairlie, South Canterbury. Mrs Shifto. of Bunnythorpe, who is ill, is with her daughter, Mrs G. Shannon, at present. Airs W. Byers, who is in a private hospital, is making good progress. Mrs F. Smith has her mother also on tho sick list .with her. The Pederson family are welcomed in tho home lately occupied by Air and Aliss Hnmbrook. At the fortnightly euchre, for Hall Queen funds, some 70 payers sat down to the tables. Prizes were won as follow: —Ladies, Mrs F. Fountain and Miss Puklowski; consolation, Airs Alarflitt. Afen, Mr Williams I, Air C. Puklowski, senr., 2. Alusic was supplied for a short dance. A concert arranged by Mr Selwyn for the School Oiicnn funds was held in the Hall, there being an .appreciative attendance. Tile programme was opened with an orchestral item. Mr Selwyn then led community singing. Guitar solos were given by Mr Alan Sundborn and vocal duets by Mr and Airs H. Prince. Airs Prince (piano accordion) and Air Prince (saxophone) gave an enjoyable instrumental number; Air Reid sang popular numbers followed by Mr Baker in novelty items. The floor was cleared and Miss S. Whitehouse presented tap dances. Amongst those present were Mesdamcs J. Lynch, green novelty satin; 11. Prince, black satin; H. R. Smith, black lace; Misses M. Speedy, milk matalasse; E. Woodd. blue crepe; J. Wood, white georgette and lace; L. Speedy, purple satin; C. Vauticr, green taffeta; AI. Hodgson, rose satin: T Newcoinbe, blue taffetas; 11. Wood, pink floral georgette; 1,. Smith, green' and white; D. Jeffrey, green crepe; J. Smith, red floral; J. Harvey, pink crepe; H. Harrowfield, cherry silk. Mr F. Eaglo wns M.O. On Saturday afternoon two tennis of footballers, Wbakarongo versus The Rest, met., the proceeds going toward tho School Queen funds. The Wbakarongo team comprised N. Speedy (captain), IT. Edwards. N. Smith. T>. Cater, AI. Johanson. I. Vautior, Goodwin, I. Robert. R. Dilks. Griffiths. R. Larcy, and the “Rest” were W. Lacey, T. Schwass, R. Scorer, R. Puklowski, K. Knudsen, R. McKenzie, K. Pukolwski. Temperton, S. Robert, Jeffries. G Wilkin. N. Speedy, H. Edwards; and Dilks scored for Whakarongo, while The Rest scorers were R. Puklowski, R. Scorrar and Temperton. W. Lacey converted two of their tries, and the final score was 13—9 in favour of The Rest. L. Puklowski was referee.

The girls’ basketball . match against Y.W.C.A. B was a most enjoyable one. Near the end of the first half Mws M. Vantier had to retire with an injured ankle, her place being taken by Miss T Newcombe. Mrs Frith refereed and players were:-Whakarongo. Misses M. Hadornski. J. Wood, K. Woodd, ,M. and C. Vautier, A Olson, W. Vautier, j. Smith, L. Speedy, and T. Newcombe emergency; Y.W.C.A., Misses B. Schwab© (captain), A. Wilson, J Smithors, B. O’Leary, I. Hughes, B. Ransom, J. Wilton, J. Garland, and Lascclls The score at half-time was 9—7 and the final result 17—15 in Whakarongo’s favour. , . ' There was a large attendance for the dance for the School Queen funds on Saturday night. Amongst those present were Mesdames W. Jones, flame; Eagle, wine crepe- H. R. Smith, red lace; Knudsen, brown; Harvev, black; Misses L. Speedy, gold satin; E. Woodd, white figured crepe; J. Wood, blue crepe; T. Newcombe, blue taffetas; J. Harvev, floral taffetas; J. Smith, red taffeta; E. Vautier, floral taffetas; W. Vautier, green georgette; M. Speedy, cherry satin; S. Speedy, wine crepe and gold;" G. .Jones, green satin; M. Vautier, blue taffetas; M. Hodgson, green satin; E. Christianson, blue satin and net; P. . Christiansen, white crepe; D. Joffree, white novelty taffetas. Mr F. Eagle was the M.C. Miss J. Wood and Mr G. Smith won the Monte Carlo.
