WINDOWS SMASHED.

DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £IBO. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 25. Damage estimated at about £IBO was caused to-day shortly after noon when a Maori run amok with a hammer and smashed 15 plate glass windows in the main shopping centre. The native, who is a shell-shocked returned soldier, aged 43, smashed two large windows of an empty shop and then in rapid succession broke the windows of eleven occupied shops. A resident engaged the man’s attention and escorted him past a number of other shops without further damage being done. The man was then taken into custody. All the damage except a window in one shop is covered by insurance.
