HOLDING YARDS.
FACILITIES AT STATION. Recently tho Railway Department acquired a section on the corner of Hnybittle and Eyre Streets and opposite the railway live stock trucking ynvds for the purpose of erecting holdiiig yards, to cope with the volume of live-stoclc traffic. Last year the existing facilities proved inadequate to meet the requirements of stock firms and agents, and representations were made to the department- for better provision. Ihe new holding yards have almost reached completion and will comprise an area of 200 ft bv 150 ft, sub-divided into four 50ft by 150 ft yards, three of which will accommodate sheep, and one cattle. Tlie posts for the cattle yard are all Australian hardwood and are 6ft high. There are two substantially constructed gates leading into the cattle pen, one from Eyre Street and ono from Haybittle Street. There is also an unloading race giving access to any of the three sheep pens. The entire yards are well drained with field pipes. The additional accommodation should meet all requirements, and the approval of the stock firms who were instrumental in their being erected.
