REV. JARDINE’S LECTURE.
REPLY TO CRITICISM. ROCHESTER (New York), July 26. Rev. A. Jardine, replying to criticism by the Vatican newspaper, Osservatoro Romano, of his references to the Archibshop of Canterbury in his lecture at Boston on July 22, said, “I am still unable to think of a description fitting the Archbishop of Canterbury more perfectly. “I am not surprised at the Vatican’s championship of the Archbishop. I welcome it, because it proves to the world what England has known for many years, namely, that the Archbishop of Canterbury is too friendly with the Vatican and is doing more to destroy the work of the Reformation than anyone else in the Church of England.”
In a lecture at Baltimore Mr Jardine said that the Duke of Windsor was driven from tho Throne by an ecclesiastic, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and a grandmotherly person called Baldwn. “Future generations will read of an Archbishop who cursed instead of praying.” he said, “of a shrieking, demented priesthood, and one little cleric who obeyed his conscience and gave the exiled Iving-Emperor God’s blessing. History will vindicate what was done iu England, sealed in France, and worked out in a chaotic, hate-driven world. I believe the Duke of Windsor (s too big for one nation or empire. The world needs him. lie is the only man capable of steering the nations to peace.”
