NEWNES OIL FIELD
DEVELOPMENT EXPECTED. PETROL FOR DEFENCE. Received July 28. 11.5 a.m. SYDNEY, July 28. The development of the Newnes shale oil field is likely to begin shortly. An agreement between the Commonwealth and the New South "Wales Governments and the company, the National Oil Proprietary, Ltd., has been signed. Rt. Hon. J. A. Lyons said that, the Commonwealth Government hopes that Newnes will he the nucleus of an organisation to produce petrol for defence..
