COMING-OF-AGE PARTY.
A very successful party arranged by Mr and Mrs A. C. Johnston, of Albert Street, was held in the Terrace End bowling pavilion recently to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter, Madge. The hall was gaily decorated, and everybody entered into the spirit of the occasion and a delightful evening was spent. Dancing was indulged in, interspersed with items as follow: Miss A. Johnson, tap dance and Coronation Ballet; humorous songs and jokes by Messrs C. Greer and J. Fowlds; song by. Mr Reed., Mr and Mrs W. Britton were the winners of the statue waltz, Mr T. Seel and Mrs Stone Monte Carlo, while Miss S. and Mr J. Mitchell were the winners of a competition. As M.C. Mr Y. Rowlands excelled, and enjoyable music was j supplied by Messrs M. Reed, D. Reed and W. Fenton. At supper, amid j much applause, Miss Johnston cut her beautifully decorated cake, the guests with much enthusiasm singing appropriate songs. The usual toasts were honoured. The guests then adjourned to the dance hall, where games and dances were again enjoy'ed. Mr and Mrs Johnston received the guests, Mrs Johnston wearing navy satin marocain, while Miss M. Johnston looked charming in a blue and flame shot silk taffeta and fur coatee. Among those present were: Misses H. Johnston, K. Mitchell, N. O’Regan (Sanson), J. Quirke, P. Neilson, M. Ryan, G. Jennings, Alderson, Stewart (Dannevirke), J. DeVantier, A. Jacobsen, H. Stone, C. Hands, Johnson; Messrs V. Rowlands, J. Geary (Hawera), A. Wheeler (Pio Pio), T. Monaghan (Pio Pio), L. Cooksley, W. Johnston, B. Schwass (Tokomaru), L. Harris (Sanson), B. Bryant (Eketahuna), D. Stewart (Dannevirke), £. Greer, J. Mitchell, W. Fenton, M. and D. Reed, W. Allsop, A. Fitzsimons, J. Fowlds, P. O’Rogan, H. Stone, E. and M. Wycherley, P. McMinn, W. Aldersley, G. McKay, T. Seel, Bartlett, and C. Oliver. The evening with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
