Mr A. T. Donnelly, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, returned to Now Zealand this week after a holiday visit to Honolulu.
The friends of Mr W. Mouldey will regret to learn that he was taken ill on Monday and since then has been confined to liis bed. This morning, however, his condition had improved.
An Ashburton Press Association message reports the death of Mr Thomas Hayes, aged 83. Born in London, be had resided at Ashburton since 1880. Ho' was a foundation member of the Ashburton Rifle Volunteers and a member of the Ashburton quota sent to Parihaka, Taranaki, during the le Whiti troubles, being the last local surviving holder of the volunteer decoration. He was a member of the Technical School Board for 27 yeais and chairman for a period.
